Hi. If you work on Raspberry Pi, i suggest using C libmodbus library, as it is easier. You can use python as a wrapper script though. If the solar controller already have tcp / rs485 modbus, i able to do that in 2 days. As long you have a proper documentation for each solar controller. I also have several experience in collecting solar inverter data : sunny webbox / cluster controller, morningstar, outback with mate2 and 3. Let me know if you are interested.
