Fix Wordpress Contact Form 7 not showing confirmation

After an update wordpress cf7 has stopped showing confirmation in many browsers. The mails are sent and we receive them, but the user don't get the confirmation on his end and can resend the form several times. I've tried to disable other plugins and update them all, but the issue is not resolved. You'll be provided with a full backup incl. the database and will have to debug it and provide me a step by step solution for the issue.
