Reading Hard Drive Manufacturing Information

We require an small console application written in C/C++ that can read harddrive manufacturing information, specifically the drive serial number from SATA, IDE, USB and SCSI drives. This application needs to do so without the use of WMI and should query the hardware as discussed in the links below. The program shoudl iterate through all drives on the system. By serial, we mean the manufacturers serial, not the volume serial.
