Professional Development Calendar

A4 size, full colour The Professional Development Calendar is produced bi-annually, and contains the list of professional development events, training and seminars for educators working in the field of early education and care. The publication is targeted at directors and educators (staff teaching and working with children) in early childhood and care environments (long day care, family day care, out-of-school hours care, preschools), which cater for children between the ages of 0–12 (but predominantly 0–5). The sector employs around 98% women, and the illustration should take this fact into account. The client wishes to use a 1950s retro-style, similar to the classic Golden Book covers (please see sample image). The sample image is provided as a direction for the illustrator only. The illustration is to be as inclusive of the community as possible and, although the style is 1950s, it must avoid the stereotypes that were so prevalent at this time. The characters to be included are: 1. Three women, and one of these women should be Aboriginal. 2. One male (but not in a prominent position). 3. Two children, one of which should be Asian boy, the other child being a girl in a wheelchair. 4. This group of people will get getting on board the train. 5. There is no need for a conductor, but if the illustrator feels that this would help the illustration achieve its goal, please ensure the conductor is a woman. 6. There is also a series of six smaller images that are used in the publication (see page 12 and 19 of the enclosed PDF sample). Other issues for consideration: 1. The words ‘All Aboard for Professional Development’ should be included in the illustration, in a retro 1950s font. 2. For workplace health and safety reasons, hats should be used, and long sleeves should also be used (sun care). 3. The publication will appear in late January and should take into account a summer/spring feel. 4. The illustration must take into account the regular masthead, and the logo placement requirements in the bottom right-hand section of the cover (please see enclosed PDF sample from previous publications). 5. Illustration must be provided in layers, to allow for separation of images and placement in the internal pages of the document (Photoshop or Illustrator is acceptable).
