Solution:
To finish migrating to Google Analytics 4 (GA4) and avoid the risk of losing any important data, follow the steps below:
Step 1: Set up GA4 using the setup assistant
If you haven't already done so, you will need to set up GA4 using the setup assistant. This can be done by following these steps:
1. Log in to your Google Analytics account and go to the Admin section.
2. Under the Property column, click on the "GA4 Setup Assistant" link.
3. Follow the prompts to set up your GA4 property.
Step 2: Link your existing property to GA4
Once you have set up the GA4 property, you will need to link it to your existing property. To do this, follow these steps:
1. In the Admin section, under the Property column, click on "GA4 Setup Assistant."
2. Select the option to "Add an existing property" and click "Continue."
3. Choose the property you want to link from the drop-down menu and click "Next."
4. Review the settings and click "Approve" to complete the linking process.
Step 3: Export data from your existing property
To maintain access to data from your existing property, you will need to export the data before it is deleted. Follow these steps to export the data:
1. In the Admin section, under the Property column, select the property you want to export data from.
2. Go to the "Data Streams" tab and select the stream you want to export data from.
3. In the "Stream Details" section, click on the "Export" button.
4. From the pop-up window, select the "Full Export" option and click "Start."
5. Once the export is complete, you will receive an email with a link to download the data.
Step 4: Import data into GA4
After exporting the data from your existing property, you can import it into GA4. To do this, follow these steps:
1. In the GA4 property, click on the "Data Import" option in the left-hand menu.
2. Click on the "Create Data Set" button.
3. Select the data type you want to import and click "Continue."
4. From the pop-up window, click on "Upload File" and select the data file that you downloaded in Step 3.
5. Follow the prompts to complete the import process.
Once you have completed these steps, your existing property data will be imported into your GA4 property, and you can continue using GA4 without any interruptions. Remember to regularly check your GA4 property to ensure that new data is being captured correctly.
