Hello, I work as a ground controller at a major US Airport. We control aircraft pushing back from the gate and arrivals to the terminal area. We are looking for a computer based solution to what is currently done by hand. Currently, we hand write all aircraft call signs, gate assignments, and status updates. I have made an excel spreadsheet that is pretty decent and doing that, but I have some more features I would like to try and implement. I would like a stopwatch to start when I tell an aircraft to hold. I have a basic version in the attached spreadsheet, but would like a better looking timer that doesn't require cell updates to refresh. Something like this perhaps, but with individual timers in each row that can be triggered by selecting "HOLD"? [login to view URL] I'm not sure if this is something that is worth doing in excel, or if a standalone program would be better. I would appreciate your thoughts/opinions!

Hi Lynne, you have done a very decent job with your current sheet, but what you need are self executing macros. which will get the automatic timers in your sheet. Also unlike the link you have attached, you don't really want a start and stop timer. You just want it to automatically start once you have the hold sign selected. Another function that can be included is the timer cell changing color based on your SLA. e.g if the target time for hold is less than 5 minutes, then the cell turns amber from 4:30 to say 5:50 and post 5:30 turns red. This becomes an easy visual management, to help prioritize. Your project needs someone who can not only understand your requirement, but also preempt your needs, and I believe I am the right person. I have over 10 years of experience working with companies like Pratt and Whitney, Accenture, Volvo.. So I can be a great asset, not only for this requirement, but also future requirements. As with any good service, there is a cost associated. So has mine. I looked at what you have already created. You almost have it, just that a background process has to be created to continuously update automatically. Having a button in every row is not going to lead to problems when you delete any row, so please do not venture into that if you need it in excel. What you have is the best method.

HI, here is some thoughts: 1. create an array to store time of each row 2. create an array as a mask to store running/pause status of each row 3. accumulate the time of each row with the status = running I'm good at VBA in excel. Hope I can help you this project

I see your excel file I can automate your timer. When you select hold it will show you how much time you hold in real time just like a stop watch.

I am able to create what you asked for and also can develop you an app with your Google spreadsheet as data base and make it more interesting if you wish.
