I have a dedicated plesk 12 server with approx 10 domains/websites using a variety of cms, ecommerce platforms etc (joomla, oscommerce v2,) and the server is running php 5.3.3 I need this upgrading to 5.4 (so i can install latest magento) as well as taking some other updates. But most importantly all sites, emails and accounts need backing up, upgrades need to be done, then all sites need to checked and made sure they are running and it all needs to be done outside of business hours so as no service disruption in uk time.

Hello, My advise to you is first to make backup for all important data like email, db's, domains, and then upgrade Plesk first so it will install all necessary service plus PHP 5.4, finally bring the backup in the fresh installation.
