PC tool to configure a sensor over RS232

We have developed a specialist sensor that can be configured from a PC using a RS232 coms link. What we need is a simple PC based application to allow the sensor’s configuration to be examined. The application will have three modes of operation :- * user permitted configuration, * manufacture permitted configuration including calibration. * display and logging of sensor results. (This may be best as two applications one for the end user and one for the manufacturer but both sharing as much code as possible). Changes that either the end user or the manufacture make to the settings on the PC screen must be sent using a simple protocol to the sensor, which will store the changes internally. This application must be easy for the end user to use, and must be able to be used regardless of the security privileges assigned to the user. The application must also be able to work from a CD or the desktop without requiring installation or any privileges above that of a limited user. The setup values are read and written to the sensor using three character mnemonics and where required followed by the data value. Enclosed is a detailed requirement, a definition of the protocol and a terminal session showing the commands and the sensors response.
