The University of North Carolina Chapel Hill (UNC), defines the term unconscious bias as bias that sways our decisions unknowingly. This type of subconscious bias is derived from our society’s different ethics, morals, and even genetics. As an individual in the public health field, I became obsessed with learning how to eliminate this type of bias with my written work. If I was fortunate enough to begin a career as a writer; I would begin as a scientist and end by checking over my work as a socially conscious individual. I write many articles from a public health epidemiologist’s view point. I then try to eliminate all unconscious bias, and other forms of bias commonly found in public health literature. My passion helps keep my goals and personal motivations centered around helping the medical industry develop into a more socially acceptable and trustworthy field. Experiencing constant doubt with traumatic brain injuries, and other chronic health issues, has inspired my passion of ensuring that others do not experience the same levels of neglect, misinformation, judgment, or even stereotypes in the medical community. I feel the best way I can do this is by writing informative pieces of literature describing how science can better not only humanity, but the environment as well.
