Zanj is a platform that gives its users unique African experiences that show the real heart and soul of Africa. The aim is to show users the continent from an African perspective while making travel easy and care-free. The platform would encompass experiences, accommodation booking, in-country travel and visa advice A detailed business model has been developed for the accommodation and visa sections of Zanj. A leading digital marketing consultant has developed a marketing strategy. The business registration has been submitted and is awaiting confirmation. This includes securing a domain and creating company emails. Currently all branding material for social media and company identity is underway. There is a recruitment process underway to find the right graphic designers and developers to build a prototype. Lastly, a database of viable destinations and corresponding experiences is being built. These experiences are being refined to be ready for launch of the service. Zanj would have 4 sections: Zanj Visa, Zanj Experiences, Zanj Accommodation, and Zanj Car. Zanj Visa would ask 4 questions from the user: what country they are based in, what country they are travelling to, what citizenship they hold and when the plan on travelling. The platform would then use API of reliable sites such as Passport index to determine if the user requires a visa for their travel. If they do not then the user can proceed to the other sections of the platform. If the user would need a visa, Zanj would draw up the list of requirements and using geolocation software, create an action list of tasks with a proposed timeline to ensure the visa came out in good time. Push notifications would be sent when proposed task deadlines would near. Zanj Experiences would use a sophisticated search algorithm that would sift through various options to give users their desired experience in the specified dates of the trip. Zanj should have experiences in both urban and rural areas that further break down into adventures, foodie tours, relaxing, honeymoons, family fun, culture and history. Once the experience has been selected, Zanj Accommodation will be used to find the appropriate housing options for the activities. Filter are used to search a place in the vicinity that has the desired amenities and price range for the user. Finally, Zanj Car could be used to book travel service beforehand or hail taxis and ride sharing providers once the user has arrived in their desired destination. Zanj would have payment integrated into the platform for users’ convenience. Secure mobile and web payment systems offered by the Direct Payment Online (DPO) group would be used as they offer such services in 15 countries across Africa. DPO would facilitate the commerce that would occur on the platform, as well as integrate the several local payment providers and maintain accounts in several currencies.
