Are You aware about the fact that there were two different questions merged into one here? - the best ways to create a database application; What are the best ways to create a database application? The best way to choose a database for an application is to look at the business use case first, and then at the technical solutions. Is the data structured or unstructured? What response time do we need? Fast or normal? What is the expected volume of data and growth rate? How frequently is the data updated or deleted? How flexible do the queries need to be (from static to highly flexible reporting)? How important are backups and recovery? How important is security and privacy? Does it need to be transaction (all or nothing semantic of several operations)? Next look at database solutions, e.g. AWS Databases has 7 different database types: relational, document, key-value, in-memory, graph, time series (new), ledger (new). While most problems can be forced into relational or document databases, they are not the optimal solutions if they problem are time series, ledgers, or a graph data model. This does not include data lakes and data warehouses like RedShift used for Reporting. Databases are a fascinating. They are the backbone of any data-driven economy. Please have a chat.
