Photo EXIF GPS data to update mysql database

I have an existing online mysql database where registered users submit a photo, the script takes that photo, pulls the GPS data out of the EXIF and updates the long/lat fields of the form so it can geocode the location. In the past, every time we use a different camera, we had to update the script to locate the correct gps data in that new photo, then convert that gps data to decimal degree format. What I would like to have, is to eliminate this step so that no matter what camera is used, the script will locate the gps data in the photo EXIF, convert that to decimal degree format in order for our Google map to pin the location correctly. I am looking for someone who has experience in this, not someone who just wants to try and do it. I need the script to work with the existing database which is web based and live. The person whom we select for is project may also lead to future work with this same program.
