We're running a server that hosts video files. To make uploads and downloads more convenient for our users, we need a small helper tool for macOS. That tool (a small icon in the menu bar) connects to our server (login via username / password / 2FA), then offers two options: 1) select / create a local watch folder, that is then synced to a destination on our server 2) select 1 or multiple projects / folders on our server, which are then downloaded

Hello I am a macOS system developer. If I understand the spec and your video correctly, the tool consists of two parts: the actual automatically-launched-upon-system-start LSUI utility in the Task Bar and a part that listens to a specific finder's folder events (file added, changed, removed, renamed). The folder watching can be done by creating a finder extension. If you do not need the dropbox-like sync functionality (the folder is synced only upon a button press) the task will be a bit simpler.
