You are required to write a description of your intended project work, and to have this proposal agreed (signed off) by your supervisor. This agreement will normally happen within the first three weeks of the project period.
You are encouraged to consult with other members of staff if specialist input is required prior to the proposal being agreed. In many cases the advice from academic staff at this stage will assist you in scaling your work appropriately. Many students have bigger ideas than can be achieved in a twenty week project, and some propose work which is trivial in that timescale.
Project proposals have a prescribed form, and are submitted online. Your project proposal will form the basis of an agreement between you and your Supervisor. It must include:
A Working Title - the title of your project;
Overview - a short overview (2-3 paragraphs) written in layman's terms for a non-technical audience;
Motivation / Rationale - explain why have you chosen this project. This could be based on a number of factors including: appropriateness to employment aspirations, modules studied, area of interest/development etc.;
Technical Overview - a more technical description of your project and how you expect to achieve the outcomes. This should include some initial thoughts about the areas for investigation, background research, literature review (identify some likely books / journals), a consideration of methodologies, and a consideration of ethical issues;
Project Deliverables - describe what you intend to produce as your Product / Artefact;
Project Plan - Provide a project plan which highlights the main phases of your project process and defines deadlines / completion dates for each phase. It should be detailed enough to be of some help to you, but not so detailed that it becomes difficult to follow. The schedule on this Blackboard module gives you a starting point. Your plan should include details of time you intend to spend on other modules and activities.
Your Proposal should include correctly formatted references where appropriate. See the LibGuide for advice on how to reference.
This design of Proposal should be suitable for inclusion in ExpoTees without any additional work.
