I am a well-experienced professional writer-editor of more than 30 years' experience. I've earned several auspicious Keith L. Ward awards for excellence in journalism, and can no longer track the large numbers of publications or vehicles (magazines, newspapers, websites, etc.) where my work has appeared.
I've taught strong writers to be editors and editors advanced-writing and publication management, and was personally selected to run the Editors Course for the U.S. military's Defense Information School under the Pentagon. I also taught in that school's Basic Journalism Course for several years. Additionally, I've created and presented basic- and advanced-writing seminars across the country.
Today, I can afford and prefer to freelance my skills. I currently contract with a U.S.-based company that works closely with The Department of Homeland Security in creating materials and online courses that teach school staffs what to do in event of school shootings and other emergencies.
I'm an excellent researcher and fact- definer, honed by years in the newspaper business in which our bylines make or break a publication's (and our own) success. Deadlines are imperative, and excuses or writer's block nonexistent for the seasoned writer.
As a wordsmith my job is to become a degree of "subject-expert" in a short time, then to translate that knowledge into an article or document that communicates clearly and fully to your target audience. This takes more than an online application or grammar program, or the few hours of work that some today claim make them proficient writers and trained editors.
I typically work closely with a client initially to learn your goals, specific requirements, and for the knowledge I can unleash from your own experience and expertise. The more I can learn of the topic improves the depth and quality of the final product, after all!
I'm a proficient, yet articulate writer. One my strongest skills is to take complex or convoluted information and relay it in a way that is easily digestible and makes sense to your readers. This, however, takes more than a few moments. Depending on the intent and actual length and depth of your project, I can provide a pre-finalized piece within an hour to several days. Finalization, of course, allows for any corrections, changes and rewrites.
I sincerely look foward to beginning what I am certain will be a satisfactory, and continuing, collaboration with you!
