Maelezo ya Shindano
Nonprofit storytelling organization ([login to view URL]) working for social change needs personal stories related violence/bullying presented in hand drawn 3 frame storyboards. Artistic skill not important (really!). One goal is to encourage non-artists create their own storyboards. Art that is too professional will not be helpful since we want anyone to believe they can draw well enough by seeing your story. Very simple primitive art is preferred. The story matters more than the art.
Sample storyboard attached shows storyboard with POSSIBILITY, HURDLE and DISCOVERY frames for a healthcare story. POSSIBILITY = sign to new government health clinic in African city for care when Steven is injured. HURDLE (2nd frame) illustrates that new clinic is closed because it operates according to business practices. DISCOVERY (3rd frame) shows the availability and benefit of traditional healer in village that operates as organic and integrated part of community rather than organizational principles.
Stories must follow 3 part story path and be drawn on storyboard template (attached). First frame shows a POSSIBILITY (dream, ambition, hope). Second frame shows a HURDLE (obstacle, conflict, difficulty) in attaining the possibility in first frame. Third frame shows a DISCOVERY (lesson, new relationship, gift, awareness) that arises from facing the hurdle in second frame.
Topic of the storyboard should tell a story rooted in personal experience that deals with violence or bullying from perspective of either victim or offender. Stories may be your own or friends, but should be based in real life experience.
Storyboards will be used for education, fundraising, policy change, peacemaking and community building. Ask any question you have for clarification. Top storyboard will each receive $20. Second and third place will receive $10 each. .pdf .ai and jpg files needed in handover.
